Vintage stone mortar N° 27

This old stone mortar from Shanxi, China, was once used in the kitchen for grinding herbs, seeds and spices. Dating from the 1950s, its substantial weight, worn surface and natural texture give each piece a timeless character.

Today, it can be repurposed as a small container, a rustic candle holder or even a planter, adding character to a terrace or garden. I particularly like them grouped together on a large wooden table.

Each mortar is unique. Imperfections, variations and irregularities are traces of its history and are considered features rather than flaws.
